In our #hall_of_aptitude channel, there’s been an ongoing “CC Guessing Game” known as the CCGG (administered by AyyJay). There is plenty of interest, and it has even generated it’s own Role on our server. At least four CM’s voted to make an official CCGG channel, so we’ll get it set up soon. (This will be a public channel for Recognized and above.)
There was a suggestion that AyyJay’s points value eventually add up to game key giveaways or similar things. We’ll pass this along to him and see what he thinks.
There’s been some concern over the overall ‘activity level’ in CC of late, and some ideas floating around on how things could be livened up a little.
- The first idea was concerning having music listening nights/parties, we’ve decided to ‘re-purpose’ the #music_log into the actual channel for not just Rhythm bot commands, but also for music discussion, etc.
- Also mentioned was the group-draws using Aggie.io, Magma Studio, and similar web programs are still a thing, just another of the idea for activity that ANYONE can host or invite others to take part in.
- There was quite a bit of discussion on tv show nights, game nights, and so on, and a suggestion for CC to again have its own actual game server on semi-popular games for outreach purposes, like TF2 and CS in the past. In the meantime, Pancakeman suggests “not necessarily free games or hosted games, that is what I believe free to play night is for (which I 100% think we should do more of btw). I instead think it should be used as an opportunity to show off games that would otherwise take an investment to get into. Games that have a progression, requirement of skill, or otherwise are complicated enough that you can’t just jump right in and play. While there are games that are free that do this, (such as ROTMG, Brawhalla, and SCP: Secret Laboratory respectively) this would also include games that are not free. I fully believe that if we want to build an actual community, it is necessary to have players make an investment of either time or money, but usually both. If we are only to stick to free to play, then we are limiting ourselves to a very small fraction of the gaming community, and I don’t think we can rely off of free to play games alone.”
- The usual interaction and welcome to our servers that used to happen really don’t happen any more. Several comments were directed at how we could possibly get back to that.
- There was a discussion about possibly allowing ‘greeters’ access to interact with new joiners in the #crash_pad. It would still take a Moderator or above to confer a Recognized role on someone to bring them into the rest of the server. This way, volunteers could “opt in” to help get to know new joiners faster.
- Amroth asked how many of our members actually consider our server their Primary Discord hangout. Basically just a thoughtful question for folks to decide where their priorities may lie concerning CC as a whole.
- We need more ‘open ended events’. Recently, we’ve had events that go through movie sagas, tv shows, or other events that, if you came in on week two, you would not know what’s going on. Open-Ended Events would be those (like Jackbox game nights) where, if you come in one night, you haven’t missed anything, and you won’t miss anything if you aren’t here next time. The guessing game (which now has its own channel! #hall-of-deduction ) is an excellent recurring low-bar entry event. Anyone can join at any time.
- There was some discussion on purging inactive accounts by mass messaging @everyone on the server to react, those who do not react get booted from the server.
Amroth would like to run a Prayer Meeting relatively soon. He has some ideas to do it slightly differently. Next Friday’s Prayer Meeting will be a kind of relaxed thing.
Our next Prayer Meeting on Friday, July 2, 2021 will work as follows:
I will setup a 45 minute worship song playlist to be run during the meeting. People can jump in whenever to either pray for things on their own, things in the prayer requests channel, or anything under the sun. After a pre-determined amount of time, I will close the night and thank everyone for coming.
The idea is to give people an opportunity to reflect and have a scheduled time to talk to God. The Prayer Meeting is meant to be flexible, inviting, and life-giving. I will be open to pray for people through DM, and I may tap some people’s shoulders to see if they would be willing to do the same.
