Valves ideas VS the people

Discuss things related to, or events for our TF2 servers.

Well as you all know valve did good (imo) with the soldier update, BUT they killed the demo by replacing the sticky bomb launcher with a.... shield???

The sword and shield is a killer combo but it defeats the reason to play a demo which is to BLOW things up not to hack and slash.

Soooo if any of you have checked the TF2 website the next class will be the ENGINEER!!! :D :)

What I think we should do is think up cool balanced buildings/weps for the engineer to counter the new weps for the other updates such as the diract hit that does MASSIVE damage on diract hits nad kills SGs.

So post 3 weps and/or 3 buildings (or a combo of both) for the engineer for example.

CLOSE RANGE TURRET.
A turret that has a rapid-fireing short-range shotgun 1st level, 2 shotguns 2nd level, and at level 3 it has 2 shotguns and a very potent flamethrower.

GOOD OL' RUSTY.
A rusty wench that repairs a little less then a normal wench but gives it a small damage buff for about 5 seconds for every whack with the wench (does not stack) it will encourage to be a more supportive engineer and work with other engineers who have the normal wench.

SPEEDY FIELD DISPENSING.
A dispenser the sacrifices metal capacity, recharge of metal rate, but increases health and reduces the time it takes to set it up and also reduces the metal cost. This makes the dispenser a quick to assemble field dispenser which is great to place by a group of your team bombbarding them.

Remamber the goal is to make up better balance/gameplay ideas for the engineer then valve does.

I personally think you should be able to make an automaton that follows you around and has very small repair and damage rates

Maybe a Quiet sentry, so people wont hear it before it can see them, but it is weaker then the normal sentry, And it cant see as far.
Level 1 is a Decent Pistol with a silencer
Level 2 is the same as above, but with more damage and quicker fire rate.
Level 3 is a weak assault rifle with a silencer on it.

Im not sure if this would ruin the game or not, but if done right it could cause some interesting strategies.

carry pack. lets you move your sg/tele without destroying it. it disables the sg/tele until put down. can only carry one at a time. can carry dispenser and it will work at the same time. alowing you to heal an re supply your teammates.

quick rench. does very little damage but can upgrade any building faster about 50 to 75 metal per hit. does 25% to 40% less damage.

Multi turret. alows you to have 2 or 3 level 1 sgs or 2 level 2 sg or 1 level 3 sg. (only problem with this is that it would make CTF maps almost impossible. every engi having 2 to 3 sgs would make it hard) damage decreasing depending on how many sgs you have. so you could have 3 weaker sgs covering more space or 1 powerful one covering a small area.

I dout that they will do anything to the shoty. maybe some new buildings and maybe be able to inter change/swap buildings.

I really think the ones above are the best out of my ideas though.

P.S. we all knew the next update was engi. thats the last class they havent ruined yet.

I like this idea except for the resupply working while in the carry pack. Waaaaayyyyy too susceptible to being abused. With 2 or 3 engineers walking around their team with fully functioning level 3 dispensers would be absurd. Not to mention to just gave Pyros and Heavies unlimited ammunition. Even decreased speed or a similar detriment wouldn't be worth that.

Carrying around already-constructed buildings is a good idea...and maybe it would take some time to 'collapse' a building into a portable version, and then more time to 'rebuild' it. Less time than construction, but at least a few seconds - again, to prevent abuse (i.e. mobile level 3 sentry that you plop down wherever).

THE 1, 2, 3 DRAW! turret.

A turret the only has a rapid fireing accuate pistol and can only be once to level 2 (a revolver will replace the pistol) and has a slight health decrese (maybe by 5-10%) it also takes 30% less metal to build but takes normal time to set up. You can have a max of 3 of this things so you can have fire coming from multiple areas which is great for covering your back from a nasty spy trying to backstab you.

The goal for this turret is that it prevides the engineer to cover a wide open area that has lots of corners so you can defend from all sides even if it may be a little weaker then a normal one. Great for when your the only engineer and need a wide covering range for your area that your defending.

A great use for this would be 2fort so a single engineer can cover outside the respawn with hay out front, and have 2 angles to cover the courtyard.

P.S It has the same range as level 1 but with the revolver it gets a 5% increase to its range.

I have not seen a good explanation of any weapon modification to the sentry, or any sentry modification altogether. Multiple sentries become horribly unbalanced without enough negatives, and can be abused to the point that engi camping will become more and more rampant. Any of the shotgun / pistol weapons instead of the sentry machine gun sounds sort of lame... I mean, shotguns wouldn't work very well because they are slow-shooting, and a shotgun doesn't load the same way as the turret would. Also, a pistol turret? That just sounds really pathetic looking ^^ Not very appealing in my opinion...

I'm guessing the engi's primary weapon, wrench, and sentries will be upgraded and not the pistol. Just modifying the damage and repair rate of the wrench is a really minor change, and pretty boring for the 9th class unlocks...

I haven't heard any believable options yet, but try this on for size:

Heavy - Russian, has KGB (Killing Gloves of Boxing)

Scout - Bronx / NY, has Sandman (baseball bat)

Demoman - Scottish, has sword and shield

Soldier - A bit of a stretch, but the military bugle used with the Buff Banner is a bit nationality-specific

Sniper - Australian, has an aboriginal shield (Razorback)

So, what is the Texan engineer's big local-unlock? Any ideas? Best I can come up with is something involving steak... or beer... maybe his guitar from the Meet The Engineer video... (like Sandvich).

I wouldnt be surprised if the beer bottle made a come back... but I think the guitar would be cool too.

I agree with you on the multi sg thing. it was just an idea and it would have to have a major health and damage decrease.

yes I believe that it will be a lame update unless the ruin the game even more..

Exactly, Mickey. Engineers, when heavily overused, can really ruin a map to the point that it goes nowhere. Adding extra powerful sentries, or more quantity, simply makes it that much more of a standstill and that really won't help gameplay in my opinion. As it is they basically split the Demo into 2 subclasses which changes gameplay on it's own... You shouldn't have to be scared whenever you're in 20 feet of an explosive class :P
