The knife medal is awarded to soldiers who where in combat, not simply deployed but was involved in combat. I was first given mine for when I was hit by the first IED and took rpg & mortar fire. This medal is called the CAB, Combat Action Badge.
Purple Heart
I was awarded it for being wounded in combat.
RCOM - army commendation medal
I was awarded this for standing in the gunner turret and returning fire with a 240bravo when my 50 cal went down.
Afghanistan Camp Medal
For being deployed to Afghanistan.
War on terrorism
For being at war with terrorism I assume.
The coins on the other hand I cannot sit and go through, when you meet someone of importance they give you a coin if they choose to. Some of my coins is from when I was in the hospital, some was given to my wife when they didnt think I would survive, and some I won through high score ranges and excellent PT scores.
